Great piece. Big fan of SP. I've asked them to offer pre-sales each year of their full annual run of books as a combo deal.

I like that. There is something great about trying to collect them all--a similar feeling to Pokemon cards, but for tech inclined readers

my bibliophile pokemon collection is growing nicely. Though I have not read Prince of Persia, Scaling People, or High Growth Handbook yet!

I read Prince of Persia many years ago, when it was a self-published e-book, and I found it an absolute delight. Extremely interesting insight into the early history of computer games, but also a beautiful meditation on creativity, and the joy of creating within tight constraints. (For an artist, and Mechner was and is an artist, constraints drive the creativity, they don’t inhibit it.) I was thrilled to see Stripe Press have reissued it in a gorgeous hardback, and I suspect I will buy it, just to read it again in such a sensually rich format.

Great early find, it's on my list. Re-issuances are probably one of my favorite parts about what SP is doing. I for one, likely wouldn't have found the self-published ebook, so I'm appreciative of the distribution provided by SP which pointed me in the direction of The Making of Prince of Persia, among others.
